NWF Geocaching Event?

Searching around, it seems like the Northwest Florida Area has not done a geocaching event in a really long time! If you're in the area and reading this, let's put one together! How bout a nice time of the year like early May or June.

Don't know exactly what goes into doing an event. I imagine a park area and a place to put some "event" caches down.... let's see... food... more food.

Ideas? Please email me or leave a comment below.

Hook it up!

Gravelshot,

I have been to 1 geocaching event. It was a Cache In Trash Out (CITO) event in Gulf Breeze 2 years ago. CITO is a great way to give back to the land which is our playground as geocachers.

CITO is encouraged within the geocaching community any time you go caching, and CITO events can happen at any time.

However, every April a Saturday is picked as International CITO Day. This year it is April 14. See cacheintrashout.org for more details. I think this would be a great time to plan an event.

CITO events are only limited to your imagination. Although the basic idea of CITO is to clean up trash, it can be combined with a variety of activities: a series of caches can be hidden for the event, food, door prizes, etc. Usually local businesses are willing to donate swag, garbage bags, hand sanitizer, safety vests, etc. for a community cleanup event. If the event is on the Eglin reservation, Jackson Guard will assist by providing trash bags, a dumpster, and even 4-wheelers (only theirs driven by them) to haul out larger items.

You have a great idea. Let's make it happen.

Hi! If you decide to do an event me (flarose516) and my mom (Nise188) would love to attend. Sounds like lots of fun but I don't have the first clue about how to get one going. I've never been to one.
