My folks were down this weekend from Texas, so I had to take'em on their first geocaching expeditions! The weather was perfect!
We stayed in Ft. Walton Beach Friday morning. First on our "hitlist" was the
Senior Citizen's Hideout. We drove around it first, but after walking behind the senior center, we knew it was in the front. It was fairly early in the morning, so there were no muggles around. I found this one about 15 feet behind where my dad and my son were standing. This was my Dad's first... he's hooked!!

Next up,
Don't Tread On Me at Brooks Bridge. I give all the credit to my 4 year old, Trale, for finding this one! The bridge was causing a little interference with my GPSr. Dad took the GPS away from the bridge to get an accurate compass pointer.
Our Friday morning expedition continues next at
Nan's Kitchen #2 off of Jet Drive. Cute little park. There were some little muggles nearby, but they soon left after we arrived. I found the geocache almost immediately. The box wasn't concealed at all, good spot though. We had to figure out how to get it. If you find it, you'll know what I'm talking about.... After a little jumping around, we got it wrapping up day one.
Today, all of us: me, my wife, my two boys, and my Mom and Dad went to
Niceville to play at the beautiful children's park, and to do a little treasure hunting!
I thought the
Mullet Festival Grounds would be a perfect spot to start. Another team though so too. They pulled in the same time as us. Nice folks! We got in the woods near the fairgrounds. We got pretty far back in those woods, maybe too far. The team behind us snagged it first. The coordinates were pretty far off... about 50 feet off! That's how it is sometimes when the trees are overhead. We traded goodies and took off to the next place near the water.
Up A Tree #2 was down on the Boggy Bayou. Beautiful spot to look over the water! Another case where the coordinates were a little off. These were nearly 60 feet off! It took about 25 minutes before my Dad looked around a tree and found it. He hollered "found it!" We all thought he was messing around, but he really found it. We checked it out on the tailgate of the truck and traded goodies.
It was a great weekend! The best weather ever for geocaching! My folks left from "Up A Tree" and headed back home to Texas.
